In 1972, the Olympic rings were painted on the tender of the locomotive 03 131. For a short period of time, it was used as an exhibition locomotive to advertise the 1972 Summer Olympics in front of Munich Central Station.
With an axle load of 20 tonnes, the class 01 standard locomotives could not initially be used on all tracks. Therefore, between 1930 and 1938, the class 03 was built with an axle load of 18 tonnes, based on the design of the 01. The 03 131 was built in 1933.
Its active service ended in 1972 at the Ulm depot. On May 24, 1972, it was transferred to Munich, where, on the occasion of the 1972 Summer Olympics, its tender was briefly given the inscription "1972 - Gruß vom Bw München Hbf" ("1972 - Greetings from the MPD Munich central station") in addition to the Olympic rings. In 1975, the locomotive was sold to the DDM.
