Our princess of the coal yard is the proud ambassador of the German Steam Locomotive Museum. She represents the museum and the fascination with steam locomotives at various events all over Germany and is present at the Whitsun Steam Days.
Princesses – those only exist in fairytales.
If I had to write a fairytale about myself, it would probably start with "There once was a little girl...". I grew up in the railway village of Neuenmarkt and because my grandpa was an engine driver, he often brought my sister and me on exciting trips with the train. As a kid, a train ride was always a special experience which I enjoyed. On trips to the German Steam Locomotive Museum, my grandpa and my uncle, who often accompanied us, always took their time to explain all the interesting things to me in a way that is suitable for children.
The steam locomotives in the museum's roundhouse are truly impressive to adults, but to children, they are gigantic!
Over the years, the German Steam Locomotive Museum has continually expanded and with its educational program, the museum has become even more attractive for families. Therefore, I am even more glad that I can represent the museum as a princess of the coal yard.
As a native of Neuenmarkt, Luisa I. has a close connection to the German Steam Locomotive Museum and has, in a way, grown up alongside it.
It was a great honor for her to represent and support the museum as the Coal Yard Princess “Luisa I.” since 2023. The majestic steam locomotives fascinate her not only because of their impressive engineering and presence, but also because she sees them as important witnesses to our cultural heritage.
Preserving and sharing the history of the railway is a cause that is particularly close to her heart. With its unique collection and outstanding exhibition, the German Steam Locomotive Museum fulfills this mission in an exemplary way, bringing history to life for visitors of all ages.
Since 2023, Luisa I. has proudly represented the German Steam Locomotive Museum as Coal Yard Princess with great enthusiasm and dedication.
I am princess of the coal yard Cara I.
My term began in 2018 and I have already had multiple opportunities to represent the German Steam Locomotive Museum.
My tasks include visiting fairs and events as well as representing the DDM on-site in Neuenmarkt. The annual Whitsun Steam Days are a special highlight for me. At the museum, especially the roundhouse with its multiple steam locomotives fascinates me.
Back in the days me and my family regularly visited the museum and I have always been amazed by the sheer number of exhibits from the past century.
As an inhabitant of Neuenmarkt I am glad to take on the various representative tasks to heighten the profile of the German Steam Locomotive Museum even further. I will be happy to welcome you personally at our museum.
As a passionate railfan, Sarah I. assisted Paula I. and Ramona I. in their tasks.
On June 9, 2014, the three Highnesses inaugurated the newly designed "Schiefe Ebene" educational trail before Sarah I. was subsequently crowned princess of the coal yard as part of the Whitsun Steam Days 2014.
We thank Sarah I., a young woman with expert knowledge on steam locomotives, for her support during her term and for the outstanding representation of the German Steam Locomotive Museum.
Due to a high number of enquiries, Ramona I. substituted princess of the coal yard Paula I. as ambassador of the German Steam Locomotive Museum since 2012.
Among others, she visited events like the meeting of German queens in Hamburg (2013).
Since the Whitsun Steam Days 2014, the likeable girl from Kulmbach was an official princess of the coal yard and charmingly represented the German Steam Locomotive Museum at various events in and outside of Germany.
We thank Ramona I. for her amazing representation of the German Steam Locomotive Museum during her term!
On Saturday, May 22, 2010, Paula I. was elected princess of the coal yard as part of the steam festival. Her predecessor Anja I. had successfully established the position and represented the museum with dedication.
Paula executed the office with great confidence. Paula was a true princess who always represented the German Steam Locomotive Museum with charm and much joy.
During her term, she received a lot of interesting and varied invitations and had the opportunity to get to know many public figures.
After more than 10 years, we thank Paula for her outstanding work, her representation of our museum and her numerous appearances where she put smiles on the faces of many railfans, children and special guests.
On September 20, 2008, as part of the 160 year anniversary of the "Schiefe Ebene", the first princess of the coal yard of the German Steam Locomotive Museum was elected. The 27 year-old master carpenter Anja Hösch won against four competing candidates.
