For railway lines with poor supply, condensing locomotives were developed with a condensing tender that recovered water from the exhaust steam.
Condensation tender (ex test car 5012 Han ex 52 1972)
During World War II, locomotives of the 52 class were equipped with condensing tenders to be used in war zones east of Germany. The exemplar of the DDM belongs to a series of 29 four-axle tenders, which were not created until between 1946 and 1949. The original five-axle tenders made turning on turntables impossible due to their length.
Our tender was given to the locomotive 52 1972, but it was already taken out of service at the Minden depot on 11/09/1953. At the Aw Bremen, the tender was converted into a test car in 1961. At the Bundesbahn Central Office in Minden, it was used by the heat engineering department to test stationary steam generators. Today it is the only one of its kind in Germany.
